“Utterly tender hearted.
Warm and sincere.
At times, uncomfortably honest…”

"Rooted in acoustic genres noted for connective storytelling and subversive turns of phrase, Jessye DeSilva is a singer-songwriter whose strong vocal work makes good use of these angles to craft important and timely compositions about issues related to identity and empowerment. Their third LP, Renovations, builds on an impressive catalog and a growing platform.”

  • Wannabe Music Blog

“Jessye’s music offers a consoling shoulder to those that may be journeying on a comparable exploration into who they are. But their songs are also an outreach for humanity.”

  • The Boot

“‘Dysphoria’ is a defiant and critical story-song that describes the disconnect from a person's self-identity and the assumptions, labels, and stereotypes put onto them by others.”

  • No Depression

“Comparisons to Elton John and Brandi Carlile are easy - DeSilva clearly takes a page from these idols, anchoring their songs in pop melody juggernauts, gauzy textures, and vocal bravado.”

  • Nashville Scene

“… DeSilva could inject new life into a genre that could definitely use a little more pretzel logic.”

  • American Songwriter

“Jessye DeSilva’s catalog doesn’t skimp on razor-sharp lyrics, paired frequently with an almost ethereal vocal.”

  • Vanyaland

“…the glow of “Solstice Hymn” beams beyond the winter… the track reveals a sweeping beacon of light for anyone stumbling around in the darkness — literally or metaphorically.”

  • Audiofemme

“[Hover] is marked with palpable boldness in melody, lyrics, production, and vocal prowess… a five-track project bubbling with witchy incantations and soul…”

  • Country Music Universe

“This is a stunningly beautiful record, emphasizing its hollowness and struggle not only in the production… but also in its nature-based imagery.”

 Bio

Jessye DeSilva (they/them)’s new, crowdfunded album, Renovations, chronicles an ongoing, imperfect journey to self-love and -acceptance, full of both moments ofresignation and moments of triumph. DeSilva, a non-binary, trans person and the child of a preacher whose conservative religion left no room for their personhood, examines identity and trauma and reckons with privilege and marginalization across 11 songs that draw from both their classical vocal training and work as a voice teacher for musical theater students at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music and their love of ‘90s emo and pop-rock. The 2023 Nashville Scene artist to watch and 2022 Boston Music Awards Americana Artist of the Year nominee put queer and trans empowerment at the very heart of Renovations, both in their encouraging, vulnerable lyrics and in the musicians they enlisted to play on their songs.
